Editor's choice fine picture: Another solar system
Another Solar System. The search for exoplanets began in the 1990s when astronomers became able to look for them. It's still unsure how many stars in our Galaxy are endowed with a solar system of their own. Most of the 140 planets found until now are Jupiter-sized bodies orbiting near their star and it's still unsure whether astronomers will really find solar system really akin to ours. Another major question will further be to know why some star-formation process yield planets as other wouldn't. Seen here is the outer ring of debris, leftover of the dust disk from which this solar system arose, as two planets are seen orbiting around the star. picture site 'Amateur Astronomy' based on a picture NASA
