Editor's choice fine picture: Peaceful landscape at Mars
Peaceful Landscape at Mars. This peaceful view was taken by rover Spirit at Mars, by the end of March 2005. Spirit is one of two twin rovers which NASA sent to Mars in 2003. Reaching there by the beginning of 2004, both rovers began to work like robotic geologists, searching for evidence of an ancient watery past at the Red Planet. As their original mission was to last three months only, it was extended by NASA, and they are still actively working -and still will until September 2006! As Opportunity -Spirit's twin- is targeting an ancient ocean or sea having existed at the Meridani Planum plains, Spirit, as far as it is concerned, is working inside a vast, ancient crater, Crater Gusev, thought to have been once a lakebed. Spirit even climbed hills which he found in the crater. The view is taken from there. It's just amazing like some Martian landscapes are reminding of Earth! picture NASA/JPL
