The Earth Evening Star. This is Earth evening star! You are on Mars and the Sun has just set West about an hour ago. The twilight is gradually getting darker and you're soon able to spot a bright star. It's Earth! Thought from a Martian point of view, Earth is an inferior planet, that is a planet which is located between Mars and the Sun, as planets like Jupiter and Saturn, which are beyond Mars, are "superior" planets. As seen from Mars, we are just like Venus or Mercury are to us, that is a planet which is seen like an evening or a morning star only. Earth should usually be seen blue, but, there, it combines with the reddish sky glow to give the pale white appearance, as Earth appears elongated because it moved slightly during the exposure. The picture was taken by NASA's rover Opportunity, currently working at Mars. Opportunity is part of a twin rovers' mission where two identical rovers are working each side of Mars. Opportunity is getting some troubles these days as it's been trapped atop a sand dune and engineers are trying to get it out of there. picture site 'Amateur Astronomy' based on a picture NASA/JPL/Cornell/Texas A&M
