Such views are showing how Saturn's atmosphere is similar to that of Jupiter, with dark belts, bright zones, turbulences, spots, ovals, dark round storms. Counter-flowing eastward and westward jets are the dominant dynamic features seen in the giant planet atmospheres. Cyclones at gas giants are rotating like at Earth, that is counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise South. It's common however that they rotate at the reverse. Turbulences are usually seen at the boundary between air masses with different densities and speeds. Chevrons are the location of redistribution of momentum into Saturn's atmosphere
When Cassini passed at Jupiter on its way to Saturn, it brought some new questions about the weather events at Jupiter. Scientists were thinking that the light zones at Jupiter, with their pale clouds, were areas of upwelling atmosphere as dark belts were seen the contrary, that is where this same air was getting down. Cassini however showed that individual, bright-white storm cells are seing upwelling in the midst of dark belts, bringing to this idea that belts are areas of net-rising atmospheric motion. Accordingly, the net motion at zones should be sinking. picture site 'Amateur Astronomy' with original pictures NASA/JPL/Space Science Institute
