Working at the ISS. A classical spacewalk view is showing Expedition 16 flight engineer Daniel Tani participating in the second of four spacewalks performed while the STS-120 mission was docked to the International Space Station (ISS). Construction up there is continuing, with 16 Space Shuttle flights, between 2006 and 2010, to bring the ISS to completion. The late STS-120 mission has brought to the outpost the U.S., Italian-built Harmony Node 2 module as it kept re-arranging the trusses and solar arrays of the Space Station. Once completed, the International Space Station will have dimensions of 350 ft by 290 ft (108 by 88 meters), weigh 470 tons, and it will be able to harbour a crew of up to 7 for a period of 3 to 6 months. The ISS is orbiting at an altitude of about 230-218 miles (370-350 km) with an inclination of 52° to the Earth's equator. One ISS orbit is taking 90 minutes, with the Station flying at 5 miles per second (8 km/s). La récente mission STS-120 de la navette spatiale a apporté à la Station le module américain Harmony, construit en Italie et elle a continué de ré-organiser les poutres et les panneaux solaires de l'ISS. Une fois terminée, la Station Spatiale Internationale mesurera 108 par 88 mètres (350 par 290 ft) et elle pèsera 235 tonnes. Elle pourra accueillir un équipage de 7 personnes pour des périodes de 3 à 6 mois.
