Great Space Events in 2009

A lot of missions leaving in 2009. To the Earth orbit first, with the mission of helping for a better monitoring of the planet as far as the atmosphere and the weather prediction is concerned. Such mission like OCO, an NOAA-N Prime satellite, and Glory are to launch

The NASA, on the other hand will be targeting this year both the exoplanets, and Mars. As far as the faraway worlds are concerned, two missions of importance, Kepler and the SIM mission are to launch this year (Kepler in February) with a mission to begin extensive and comprehensive studies of those planets which may be located around stars other than the Sun. The NASA, on the other hand, by fall, is to take the opportunity of the Mars opposition, spanning 2009-2010 to have an easier access to the Red Planet, and launch a large, 6-wheeled rover which will keep to follow the tracks of life on Mars!

You will note, at last, that fact of interest, beginning this year (and in a sense, already since last year), which is that we beginning entering a long span of years -likely lasting until about 2020- along which one will celebrate the 50th -and, mostly, the 40th- anniversaries of all the main premieres of the space age, performed either by the Russians or the Americans in the 1960's -like the first manned flights, the first spacewalks, the U.S. Gemini program, etc.- and, too, the 40th anniversary of the Apollo program, which landed U.S. astronauts on the Moon along varied missions and after a series of miscellaneous preparatory flights

Grands évènements spatiaux de 2009
Beaucoup de missions vont être lancées en 2009. Des missions en orbite terrestre, d'abord, visant les sciences de la Terre et la météorologie. Ce sont les missions OCO et Glory ainsi qu'un satellite NOAA-N Prime
La NASA, par ailleurs, cette année, va viser à la fois les exo-planètes et Mars. Pour ce qui est des planètes lointaines, deux missions importantes, Képler (en février) et la mission SIM ont pour but de commencer de mener des études complètes et approfondies de ces planètes qui sont en orbite autour d'étoiles autres que le Soleil. La NASA mettra aussi à profit l'opposition 2009-2010 de Mars pour lancer un grand rover vers la planète rouge; il y travaillera pendant deux ans et continuera de chercher des traces de vie
On notera, enfin, avec intérêt, qu'à partir de 2009, on va commencer d'entrer dans une longue série d'années -jusque vers 2020- qui verront, d'une part, la célébration des 50èmes et -surtout- 40èmes anniversaires de toutes les grandes premières de la conquête de l'espace réalisées par l'URSS ou les Etats-Unis dans les années 1960 -premiers vols habités, premières sorties dans l'espace, le programme Gemini, etc.- et, d'autre part le 40ème anniversaire du programme Apollo qui déposa des astronautes américains sur la Lune (missions variées et toutes les missions, habitées ou non, préaratoires au programme)
